The presentations I delivered at SolidWorks World 2014 (“SolidWorks API for Total Beginners” and “Using Microsoft Excel with the SolidWorks API”) are now available for public viewing. Both of these videos contain new material, so even if you’ve watched the tutorials at CADSharp.com, check them out because you might pick up something new. Here’s how you can watch them and get the presentation files:

1. Visit the SolidWorks World presentations page
2. Enter “Keith” for the presenter name
3. Choose “Design Automation” for the Select Category dropdown
3. Make sure that “2014 Proceedings” is chosen
4. Click Search

Once the videos appear, click the film reel button to watch the video and the document button to download the presentation files.

San Diego is, in my opinion, one of the best locations for SolidWorks World, between the beautiful convention center, great weather, and fun Tuesday night special event. Combine that with the consistently high-quality learning and networking opportunities available at every SolidWorks World, and I am really excited about attending this year. Video: Write A Powerful Macro from Scratch, Episode 2

Owing to the popularity of our post titled Write A Powerful Macro From Scratch I decided to create another free video along the same lines. Unlike my beginner-level videos, this series assumes you already have a basic knowledge of the API (especially the API Help). That way we can focus on nothing but coding.

In this video I’ll show you how to create a left-hand version of a part using the Mirror and Delete Body feature. (The beauty of this method is that both right-hand and left-hand versions reside in the same document.) Then I show you how perform this operation in bulk on all parts in a specified folder. But that’s not all. You’ll also see how assumptions play a very important role in your code. I’ll also show you the importance of comments for outlining, testing, and prefacing code.
